This tour may be of particular interest to those interested in genealogy, and retracing their Ulster and Irish roots.

As my surname Douglas suggests, my ancestors were lowland Scots who came over to the area in the late 1600's/early 1700's as I have found records of them being tenant farmers on the outskirts of the city in the mid 1700's. Accordingly, I have been fascinated in their history, and in late Feb 2020, just before the first covid lockdown, I launched my Scots Irish/Ulster Scots Connections of the City tour.

This particular tour option focusses on the emigration of the Ulster Scots who became the Scots Irish in North America

As we do a walk along the riverside/quayside to the Emigration Sculptures and back you will hear about the emigations to the North America and in particular the USA and hear about these prominent Scots/Irish who became pioneers and presidents in America.

We've been on two walking tours now with David. One about the city walls and the second with an Ulster Scots/Irish theme. David is very knowledgeable about everything we saw and was able to give us references to find further info if wanted. I'm not really a history buff unlike my husband but the two hours flew by full of interesting stories, anecdotes and humour
